hi all,

i've done a search on head-fi for the trends ta-10 amplifier, but most stuff is about using it with headphones. i'm interested in getting this amp to use with some small bookshelf speakers for my computer desk.

anyone have any experience running this amp with speakers?

i'm still quite new this hobby and i don't quite get the specs and what they mean:
http://coemaudio.com.au/products.php?product_id=142

i plan to use the ta-10 with these speakers: http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/sho...&ProcessType=1

the speakers have a sensitivity of 85db and i don't play my music crazy loud, but i'm worried about the 10watts that the ta-10 has at 8ohms.

anyway thanks for reading!

The trends will power them, but only just. At anything other than low level you're likelly to clip as 10 watts doesn't give you much dynamic headroom with low efficiency speakers. I'd really look at more powerful amps unless you really play quietly.

I have one for several month now with vintage Bose 201 speakers. I replaced all surface mounted caps to larger and better quality as well as change the wires to silver coated copper wires. I am also using it with 12volt DC SLA battery. It has better sound resolution with SLA battery than the stock AC power supply. It's better sounding amp than T-amp and Super T-amp I had in the past.

Hi SK138,

Would you happen to know if the ta10.1 would be any good in my speaker rig?

How does it directly compare with a bog standard nadc320bee integrated; would i reap benefits from running the NAD preamp into the TA10.1 configured as a poweramp to drive the monitor audio BR2s?

many thanks for your views,

Guys, I am a T-Amp fanatic and I have the TA-10, I have never heard the TA-10 being used for headphones !, where did you see this ? Its a great sounding amp, you need very efficient speakers 90dB+ for them to shine. Try to get single fullrange drivers that use 4" Fostex, Tannoy etc... The best bargain speakers are currently on special at Best Buy USA, too bad we can't get these in Canada. Insignia http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1138085354138 , these 90dB speakers are amazing value and quality for the price, there have been several reviews on these.

The TA-10 is currently the darling of the budget audiophile crowd and it got me back into audio after a 20 year hiatus:

There are only a few instances where the t-amp works as a headphone amp. One is with the AKG K1000 and the other is Staxes transformer lineup as these use the speaker outs anyway. They are pretty much the only way to use phones unless you go balanced and risk it from the speaker taps but it might be a bit powerful for most phones.
