Toying with the idea of getting a portable, or more correctly, a transportable headphone. Purpose/Traits= Throw it in a bag (bulit like tank), use it with a DAP (no external amp), must isolate and no leakage, probably prefer single sided cord. Obviously at least decent sound.
Can be either supra-aural or circumaural, preferably on the light weight side.

Contenders-Srh 440, Ultrasone DJ1, HD280, ATH WS70, maybe DT250 (80ohm), HD25-1 II, ATH SQ5, AKG K518dj, HD228. Others?

Eliminated-ESW9 (Can't throw them in a bag, isolation/leakage) ES7 (same thing).

Thoughts?

Hd 25 1 definitely. Isolation top notch ( velour pads for better comfort ), punchy , balanced , forward sounding, very light , indestructible . Have mine for 7 years not a single scratch and you can gett them second hand with no worries.

Which has the most detailed/deep bass out of OPs list?
Can the DT770 80ohm be run off a Teclast T51/Nationite S:Flo 2 (only interested if it doesn't have muddy bass).

The DT770 isn't exactly very portable.

There was a second hand dt250 80ohm on ebay the other day. Just search beyerdynamic headphones. It was $100 I think. Balanced frequency response...sounds great out of DAP. Doesn't fold, but looks sturdy enough to throw in a back pack.

Just wanted to mention that the SRH840s I tried were very sturdy feeling headphones. More so than they appear to be in photos, so a good portable headphone.

Hey Kernmac, i'd have thought your Pro 900s would fit the requirements perfectly? And they fold up fairly small.

Probably would, if I still had them. My Pro900s with Blue Dragon cable went to another headfier in a swap for a Corda Cantate2. I am not really looking to tie up that much money in this headphone. I could take my ED8 with me, however I am looking for something that I would not have to worry about getting damaged or lost.

Fair bit of love for HD251 IIs and I think I can pick up a pair for a decent price even in Australian terms that is. Bit concerned about clamping and comfort, not sure I would want a clamping Grado type fit?
