I've bought everything but my player :

??? >> ALO Cryo micro >> Tomahawk >> ES2's

I'm undecieded on which ipod Nano to buy "1st gen 4g" or "2nd gen 8g" Both will only be used from the line-out dock in the configuration above. I'd rather have the 8g for the space but will I be sacrificing sound quality. Doe's anyone know the answer to this??

Please help me decide.

Sound isn't hugely different, from what people report. It was popular when the 2nd generation came out to praise the sound of the 1st generation over the 2G ... I don't know what the 1st gen. sounds like (and I just listen to my 2G through the headphone out), but would it matter that much through the line out?

Also, the 2nd generation crushes the 1st gen. model in battery capacity/life.

if it was me and I was only looking for a small player which is 8gb there are a lot of options for you. I think you should explore them all before you make a decision. There are lots of great units out there atm which rival the nano.
