A buddy of mine wants to replace his old DAP. However, he has some VERY specific requirements. I think the best goal would be to find a DAP or company that will fit most of his requirements:

-must take SD cards
-must play OGG Vorbis
-Use Standard, replaceable battery
-FLAC support would be nice...but not a requirement.

And, if possible, good sound quality (or at least better than his current off-brand player).

I couldn't think of one off the top of my head, so I look to you, Head-fi. Frankly, I'm at a loss.

The only one I can think of would be the Sansa e200. It has SD capability, replaceable battery, and can be Rockboxed, which should allow you to play OGG and FLAC.

Another one by default that can support OGG and FLAC would be the Cowon D2.

I'll second the D2 suggestion. One thing though, The D2 supposedly has a hard time reading the ID3 tags on Ogg files. I've not experienced it myself though, but it's a common complaint over at the iAudiophile forums.

Finding a decent DAP that uses a replaceable alkaline battery will be awfully hard to do these days.

Trekstor Vibez supports ogg & flac; has replaceable battery; very good SQ; but is not flash & doesn't support SD cards. However, there is supposed to be flash Vibez released "soon"...whether or not it will support the SD cards I'm not sure.

Yea I was hesitant to recommend the D2 due to the OGG tag issues. Though hopefully there will be a rockbox port for it soon. The Sansa also has a user replaceable battery. I have also heard from people that have replaced the battery's on their D2's, as it is possible, with a lot of searching, to find a spare, and the casing is simply screw-off.
