hello all.  i'm slowly trying to understand the encoding process of my music files.  in terms of hardware, i just use my macbook pro unibody 2009 and the JH Audio 16pro.  I plan on purchasing the Dacport so the only thing left is encoding my music.

Recently, my friend gave me some ripped songs off of his CD library in FLAC.  how can i tell if they are in 24/96?  right now i'm playing the songs w/ vlc.  will this program limit the playback quality?  will i notice a difference if the songs are in 24/96 just coming out of the headphone port of the macbook pro, or will i need a higher quality dac to notice?

thanks all!
