is it worthwhile to get one of these glass toslink cables if i need to use an adapter for my portable MD player's optical out? would the sonic benefits of the glass cable be mitigated by the 1/8" adapter?

As long as none of the light gets blocked by the adapter, the adapter shouldn't make a difference at all in sound.

What does the adapter look like?
When I think 1/8" adapter, I picture a mini plug like headphones.
This would lead me to believe that the digital out was coax and not optical. (or toslink)

i'm too lazy to find a pic...there are a couple on one of these toslink threads. it's a 1/8" miniplug, but obviously at the end of a toslink fiber optic/glass cable. the pcdps and mds with optical ins and outs use these 1/8" inputs/outputs. i think the sostenuto and piccalo DACs use these mini plugs as well...
