I've only spent about 45 minutes with it, but the R10's hands down. I liked the bass heavy version, but to each their own.

Another vote for the R10 for the best closed headphones available. Next to the HE90, I've yet to audition better. The L3000 is great but not nearly as refined and not as engaging in mids, details, and naturalness of tones. The only drawback I have on the R10 is the bass (I'm a bit of a basshead), and I own a bass heavy version. I sure wish the R10 has slightly more of it, but they are pretty close to perfect on everything else. When listen to R10 on a proper setup with well recorded material, they are pure bliss.

Don't be, wiktor.
I was just impressed with your graphic description of the R10.
You painted a picture with words that had me wishing for a perfect transducer.
I haven't heard a Sony R10, but I have had two sessions with an Orpheus and a Stax 02 mk2. The Orpheus still has my heart.
My HD800 and AKG K1000 bass heavy are wonderful in their own way.

I guess we all hear differently, because I have had one of my nephews listen to my AT W5000 and JVC HDA DX1000 with the same programme material and came to a totally different listening experience to me. Yet when it comes to the open cans - HD800, HD650, HD600, AKG K702, etc we are in broad agreement.
Go figure.......
I think the main thing is to find what you like and enjoy them - and let the critics waste their time while you enjoy your sonic treasures.

For me I think the Denon AH-D2000/5000/7000 will be the first I am going to be able to test. :allteeth:

Will later see if there is any Sony mdr-R10 somewere I can try out. (hit me up),-

I'm leaning heavily toward the Denon AH-D7000.  I've heard the AH-D5000 and 7000 plus a couple of A-T cans.  I know none of them are perfect, but I really like the ability to listen in relative isolation and at moderate levels while still getting bass levels similar to what I get when I turn up other cans to levels that are higher than are good for me.

My thoughts exactly
