Since the year is [almost] half over, I think it's high time to start the pointless list thread of the top five albums of the 2005 (so far). I actually think it's been a decent year for new music. Here's my list, in no particular order:

1. Decemberists--Picaresque
2. LCD Soundsystm--LCD Soundsystem
3. Stephen Malmus--Face the Truth
4. Out Hud--Let Us Never Speak of this Again
5. DJ Shadow--Entroducing (Deluxe Edition)--(that's cheating, I know, but this album is so good that even a re-release makes it on my list)

[edit] Jack963 pointed out the obvious to me--June does not equal half a year. Hey, I failed counting in in nursery school

I'm not criticizing you, I'm just curious how you consider the year to be more than half over? We're 5 months and 2 weeks into the year. More than halfway through 12 months would mean at least 6 months of the year have passed (which has not occureed as of yet)...Anyways, here's my list (in no particular order):

Dark Tranquility - Character
Agony Scene - The Darkest Red
Still Remains - Of Love and Lunacy
System of a Down - Mezmerize
Trivium - Ascendancy

Still Remain's "White walls" is really great but I haven't gotten their album yet.

DUDE, GET As I Lay Dying's new CD, it's incredible...it far surpasses "the darkest red" imo (which I also got on tuesday)

#1 = As I Lay Dying "shadows are security"
hmm...what else is from 2005....
#2 = Living Sacrifice "In Memoriam"...yeah, it's their best-of CD, but "In Christ" and "Killers" are amazing songs and I'm really glad I got it (because I don't have any DJ stuff)
#3 = Sinai Beach "Immersed", it really is great...the "cleans" aren't really great but songs like "Necessary Bloodshed" and "To the Church" really get me going.
#4 = The Chariot "everything is alive, everything is breathing, nothing is dead and nothing is bleeding" ... in vein of Norma Jean...no computers, just raw.
#5 = mae "The Everglow", it's soft but it's awesome

As you may have noticed, I listen to lots of hard music

haven't bought much new music this year, but stars: set yourself on fire is the best i've heard in a while.

I agree with some of the choices here, adding a few and commenting

1. Sleater Kinney- The woods, once i got past the sound which took an adjustment, this is the strongest album from them yet and is just blow you way fierce

2. Bloc Party- Silent Alarm, arguably the best debut

3. Weezer- Make beleive, their best since the first album

4. MIA-Arular, not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like dancehall/electronic/rap or whatever you term it, it's very good

Biggest let down for me, Nine inch nails- with teeth. I have never had an album go from something i liked to annoying and boring so quickly. It was the exact opposite of The Fragile which got better with each listen

It's been a slow start IMO but here's a few:

LeAnn Rimes - This Woman
Garbage - Bleed Like Me
Craig Morgan - My Kind of Livin
Star Wars - Revenge Of The Sith

Mudvayne and NIN disappointed me a bit, they had some good tracks but as they say "never as good as the first"

Looking forward to the new 311 "Don't Tread on Me", no date yet but sounds like it's getting close!

Beck - Guero

I wanted to say "Funeral" by Arcade Fire and "Future Perfect" by Autolux, but apparently they were on the street in 2004...it's always tough to do this but I would say...

[1] "[WITH_TEETH]" - nine inch nails
[2] "TheFutureEmbrace" - Billy Corgan
[3] "Demon Days" - Gorillaz
[4] "Get Behind Me Satan" - The White Stripes
[5] "Gimme Fiction" - Spoon

"Guero" - Beck / "Deadwing" - Porcupine Tree / "Push The Button" - The Chemical Brothers / "X & Y" - Coldplay / "Another Day On Earth" - Brian Eno / "Bleed Like Me" - Garbage / "Lcd Soundsystem" - Lcd Soundsystem / "Silent Alarm" - Bloc Party would all be tied for sixth place

[rextrade - got DJ Shadow - Entroducing [Deluxe Edition] - I have had "Private Press," for years, but until today, I have never heard "Entroducing." I don't think that you cheated by including this album. It is that good...]
