Concept-country weirdness about living in a forest in 1900 and hunting for deer - absolutely beautiful, Fleetwood Mac-esque tunes and gorgeous instrumentation.

Just saw these guys live! Very good. Someone slipped me a compilation as a taster the day before the gig, but it sounded horrible. I suspect it was a download. Now I want this album, but I am worried about the production: so how does it sound?

Very good album and nothing wrong about the recording.
Enjoy it!

Well, here's an album that kind of snuck up on me. I got it, enjoyed it, but (for whatevr reason) it never really connected with me. But lately I have to say that with each listen it manages to get its claws into me a little more. Emily Haines (of Metric) has really done something special with Knives Don't Have Your Back.

Yeah, the production on this record is actually really, really, really good. Great, even. Really natural, open and rich.

just listened to Ys and i was stunned. easily on the top of my list of 2006 (even w/ one month left) and one of my fav albums of this decade; i swear it's that good!!

not to take anything away from her previous album, "the milk-eyed mender" (which i absolutely adore as well), w/ the orchestra it was more lively and really accompanies the harp real well.

side note, as stubborn as i am, with the constant delay of Pretty Little Head week after week, it'll be a first candidate for best of 2007. i'm very close to ordering off CD universe if it's not in stores next tuesday. absolutely ridicurous.

I can't believe it's not in stores up there yet... I got it weeks ago (Oct. 31st, IIRC). It's good stuff and on my list for sure.

Did you get a chance to see them live? Great band and the audience made me feel young! There were lots of blokes with long hair, and lots of blokes who probably used to have long hair!

First time I've ever seen mention of this group...

The drummer (I think), Nathan Howdeshell, is my 2nd cousin... and VERY different from me, lol. I don't actually like their music though.

Got to add a disc that has barely been off my shuffle

Lou Rhodes - Beloved One
B000E0W1P8.02._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V57044975_.jpg

Debut solo effort from former Lamb frontwoman. Back to her roots with a beautiful album of pure folk - electronic textures and rhythms are replaced by acoustic guitars, strings, and ethnic percussion and instrumentation. Crucially, the heartfelt, emotional lyrics for which Rhodes is loved are still present in all their glory.

Edit: Came out last year, but gained big attention this year due to a Mercury nomination in the UK
