I picked up a SME 3009 Series II Improved for my Thorens TD 124 project and while it is apart thought of rewiring it. It looks like a strait forward job for the most part. I've got to take it apart to replace the knife bearing anyways so it is the perfect time.

I'm thinking of using the Cardas 4 wire with shield cable. Here are my real questions.

1. When grounding the arm, do you use the shield at the head or in the base of the arm as the grounding source?

2. With the shield of the wire, would you ground it at the same point as the arm ground if they are different?

3. Is is acceptable to use a longer tonearm wire and terminate it with RCA maybe a length of 2' instead of putting in RCA's at the base of the arm and running different cable? My thought was the less connections or solder joints from the cart to the phonostage the better?

If you have any experience, pointers, how to sites or such please let me know! Thanks!
