Tom DeLuca, hypnotist: WOW!

He came to my college too. It was hilarious!

There is no doubt in my mind it was real.

At one point he told a guy that all of fruit were his friends and family and told another girl she was really hungry. He was getting very upset over her eating his grandmother.

It was slightly disturbing when he told the kid that he would get very hungry over the next 5 minutes and put an apple(who was his best friend) in his hand. While he moved onto other volunteers you could watch the guy squirm in his seat staring at the apple until finally about 10 minutes later he screamed IM SORRY MAN and took a big bite the guy was almost in tears. Of course DeLuca just ran over, snapped his fingers, and said "your friend is fine, its just a flesh wound" and the kid was happy again.

I would agree that hypnotism is bunk, save that when I was in orientation while still going to school at the U of Chicago I was selected to be hypnotized (by the same guy the original poster mentions, I believe). I was definitely schmucked up, until someone fell over on me and snapped me out of a daze.

I've read several news articles lately, describing people undergoing major surgery while under hypnosis, using little or no anesthesia. This suggests that that hypnosis is real, and can be highly effective.

99% is a mixture of peer pressure and gullibility.
The tiny remainder are the actual trained hypnotists; and not of the traveling freak show type. Shrinks and the like use it to great effect.

IMO, of course.

DeLuca actually has a masters in psychology though and was trained in hypnotism while in college. I'm inclined to believe he is one of the few who actually can hypnotize people. He just happens to use his realy hypnosis skills for his "travelling freak show" whereas most performers are fakers. Especially considering a couple posters have said they were hypnotized by him and they really were hypnotized.

Okay.. he came to Jenks Highschool Graduation in 2004..

I was skeptic... very skeptic..

until the kid on the end got a huge boner in front of the entire school (900 classmates).. and i knew no one would subject themselves to that for something fake.

I've never laughed like that..
