Yes, I've used a Nuforce Icon Mobile and a Meier Porta Corda III in Ubuntu just fine. Plug and Play and everything. If you use any of the relatively recent releases of Ubuntu, you're probably using Pulseaudio as your sound server, and it works well.

If you're using 9.10, you can switch the output device in System > Preferences > Sound. If you're on an older release, you'll want to install padevchooser from the repositories to switch your output device to the DAC.

yeah.

some amps means? Likely anything you come across will work fine.
