...Do they work for sure on Linux/Ubuntu?
(to linux or Ubuntu users)...No driver required USB 2.0 DACs...

Yes, I've used a Nuforce Icon Mobile and a Meier Porta Corda III in Ubuntu just fine. Plug and Play and everything. If you use any of the relatively recent releases of Ubuntu, you're probably using Pulseaudio as your sound server, and it works well.
If you're using 9.10, you can switch the output device in System > Preferences > Sound. If you're on an older release, you'll want to install padevchooser from the repositories to switch your output device to the DAC.

plug and play is generally a straightforward thing.
You can check so see if ALSA supports your soundcard, or even more comprehensive, technical info here.
"Mainstream" dacs all work just fine.

I already knew that page, but so much do not figure... I was just thinking about some amps that should be plug&play but... Who knows!
