Well, there is a little good news. There is grant money for studying the medical problem. This is the first step in getting results.
In case you are interested, here is a call for proposals:

SCOPE: The American Tinnitus Association is inviting grant
applications for research concerning identification of, mechanisms of,
or treatments for tinnitus.
DEADLINE: The deadlines are June 30 and December 31 of each year.
FUNDS: Since 1980, the ATA has funded more than $1.3 million for 55
projects ranging from $300 to $100,000. Many awards are seed grants.
Recent funding cycles have funded two to four grants per cycle.
ELIGIBILITY: Unspecified.
