I think my presario 700 laptop can produce better sound than my soundblaster platinum. I'm using the sr60. The laptop seems to give otu more crisp sound. Obviously the platinum can produce more bass and treble, but as far as sound quality, it seems to sound very "mushy and echoey".

shoudl I get a new soundcard?

I have an SB Live and a M-Audio 2496 in my comp. The 2496 is a substantial upgrade from the Live. The analog outs are very quiet, and they output a really clean, detailed, well balanced signal. One member here has both the M-Audio Revolution and the 2496. He says the analog outs on the Revo are better than the 2496, but the digital out is better on the 2496. There's a one month old Revo on the Gear for sale forum ($70.00) here
