Varley--you have been verified, thanks.

LFG530--Although there was some initial confusion, I believe I have sorted everything out.  Thanks for your help, and again, sorry for the trouble.  As a side note, perhaps you could be so kind as to direct people to post #99 for future updates (in your first post #1).

NU62--I didn't see a message from you, but I'll certainly check again.  In any event, you're correct--there was some confusion, the long and the short of which you are No. 1 on the wiatlist currently.

To all:  Post #99 has been COMPLETELY UPDATED to reflect the status of affairs current (as of 7:27PM).  It will continue to be updated as more information becomes available, so please reference for the most up to date information from here on out.  I have also included a complete waitlist with the proper order for your convenience.

PS:  Waiting on the following users to verify their order info.

You can remove me from the waitlist.  I'll be going the DIY route on a new pair of T50RP's.

Thanks!

Smeggy, may I know whether the LCD2 pads have obviously better sound or isolation than the Stax pads? If so I may want the LCD2 pads instead.

Googelei - preferences updated

wdahm519 - you've been removed per your request

svyr - preferences updated

Sperandeo - yes, you're still in the first 15 and have confirmed your info.  The numbers on the list are not reflective of any order aside from when people filled out the form.  Those who showed interest prior to the form being created were given priority.  Hope this helps.

Brent, I have answered to you and LFG in PM and in posting here that I want the Macasscar Ebony.  Do I need to verify my order info elsewhere?   If I missed anything please let me know.  Thank you so much for doing this.

In addition, I also wanted to have the small piece of plastic replaced with the same wood material if possible.  I like my pad to be LCD2-rev2.

Does anyone has a better picture of the African Blackwood.  On Smeggy's site I can only see the edge or the side of the cup making it hard to see the wood in front view.

Hi Jalo,

I'm out of PM's for the day.

Your order currently is:

9/22/2011 20:36:22 Jalo I am 100% committed to the group buy, regardless of final wood(s) to be used. Stax O2, soft and comfy ($125-155) Macassar Ebony.  My understand is that ebony is the hardest type of wood so it may add weight but is may sound great though not as pretty.  The brazilian rosewoord or honduran rosewood is very pretty and have been use in making classical guitar.  Probably my first choice.

Can you verify that this is correct?

Thanks,

Brent

Svyr, sadly I'm not going to have time to do replacement wooden blocks at the moment with the group buy just because of the sheer workload I have on my hands. I might be able to update them at a later time though. For right now, no time!

Googleli, the isolation is, I think, a small increse, and the sound imo is a little better. More air and a slightly better balance.

Oqvist,

Speaking for myself, I prefer mine to the LCD2, I know it may sound nutty to some but we all have personal preference and I like mine more because I can make mine do exactly what I want in a phone and they get 95% or more ear time. The LCD is a superb headphone and I love them to bits, the proof of the pudding though is in what I tend to pick up and listen to, that ends up being the TPs. Now, I'm not saying the TP is the better phone, I'd never dream of being that presumptuous, it's better for me. I wear mine in the region of probably 6+ hours a day, every day.

"Closing the port how much do you feel it destroy the sound. I am sure it help with ev reverb or resonance issues but as mentioned hard time believing it would better the LCD-2?"

Closing the ports will completely destroy the sound because they need venting. It's not a 'bass port' per-se, or anything to do with reverb or resonance. It's that the driver is designed to work with an air vent. Without it there is little bass or depth, similarly, the driver isn't designed to be used open backed and sounds equally bad as such. Again, which is 'better' is a personal preference based on what sonic signature you prefer.

"What is the lightest you can get this? Possible to go lighter then the stock version?"

It's a tough proposition but I am getting close using lightweight replacement materials in my latest experiments. I don't know if it will ever be below stock weight as it uses very thin and light plastic, however, any additional weight is more than mitigated by vastly superior comfort. It is possible to get close though providing people don't ask for woods that are very heavy and dense. There's only so much I can do.

Update:

I have managed to reserve 5 blocks of the blackwood and three of macassar, I'm still tracking down more macassar and the ziricote. I have access to the purpleheart and others. Tracking down all the parts and what-not is taking some time.

Hi Gary,

I was wondering if you were referring to the standard Denon earpads, or the aftermarket ear pads by JMoney ? They are designed to produce better sound (on the Denons) then the originals  See link for more details.

Of the pads I've been investigating I can give the following...

Stax. Good isolation, very comfortable, good sound +, decent soundstage, very expensive.

LCD2 rev1 pads. Very good isolation, good comfort, very good sound, good soundstage +, moderately expensive.

LCD2 rev2 pads arriving Monday. Unknown.

Beyer Gel pads. Ugly as sin, extreme isolation, good comfort, good sound +, good soundstage +, relatively inexpensive.

Beyer leather pads. Good isolation, good sound, good comfort, difficult to fit, decent soundstage, relatively inexpensive.

Beyer pleather pads. Good isolation, decent comfort, decent sound, decent soundstage, relatively inexpensive.

Beyer velour pads. When modified offer moderate isolation, very good comfort, very good sound, best soundstage, relatively inexpensive.

Fostex pads. Very good isolation, good comfort, good sound, lesser quality construction, moderate soundstage, free.

Denon pads, good isolation, good comfort, good sound, decent soundstage, moderately expensive.

This is my opinion based on tests with my experiment set.
They all have some compromise somewhere and none are perfect, some are extremely well suited to specific needs though.
