Pro900 are one of the best headphones for the money (under $400) and offer good isolation and comfort when watching movies. Not so good for classical. I listened to Denons at meets only .

Not sure about the d5000 but the d7000 don't sound at all like the pro900 to me. You should take some time and find a pair to listen again without noise around you

Give him a rest. First new toy syndrome have to wear off. He has to get used to the new signature and all that too. First impressions are what they are. I am always impressed with people with such self control, that they manage to keep shut for the first weeks with a new toy

My thoughts exactly, guys. It'll be my first real Head-Fi review, and I want to do it right, both for my own listening needs as well as for everyone here who might factor it into their own purchasing decisions.

How much did you get the D7000's for? and from where may i ask? I was initially looking at the d5000, but then alot of people were telling me to get the ultrasone 900's, and now I came across a few people who say that the d7000 is above the best... so I'm just confused at this point.

I got a good deal for them from J&R, after a bit of back-and-forth with a fairly snippy CSR. The Ultrasones are fantastic phones, and comparing them to the 7000s over the last few days has not lessened my opinion of them. I'll go into more detail in my review, but IMO it comes down to what you're looking for in a headphone rather than one can completely and utterly dominating the other.

Looks like i will be purchasing the Pro 900's for myself as they cost less than half of the D7000's in NZ, even $100+ cheaper than the D5000's.

Looking forward to your review however

The Pro 900 are fine phones. I am getting the D7000 because I think the bass has better control, and I like the sound of the mids better.

Good suggestion, as the isolation levels are quite different. I've updated the review.
