Could be. Wadia has very very low impediance, plus lots of gain, pretty much on par with your typical headamp (and many preamps). The point is that Wadia is overengineered to the point that many Wadia owners bypass a preamp or headamp to simplify the signal path.

Balanced signals require four leads, so you need to stick with XLR plugs. You can also run regular headphones off the RCA outs (single end outputs) using a 'Y' adaptor. Radioshack makes an RCA-to-stereo-phono-Y-adaptor for about $8. I have also read threads where DYI'ers -- as well as Zu -- have made the same type of adaptor (but better quality) for as much as $150.

Based on my limited experience, many phones sound better balanced (especially Sennheiser and maybe some of the Grados, etc.???), so take that into consideration.

See the balanced thread in my sig for more on what it takes to run phones in balanced mode.

First of all, the HD-650 out of the Wadia balanced sound so great I am selling my Rudistor NX-33 amp.

I bought a Y cable for 30 Euros at a local pro-audio shop and have been testing it with the Ultrasone 6500 and Qualia 010. The Ultrasone has a nice relaxing sound but is a little bright as has been reported in this forum. The Qualia does not work well with the Wadia - sounds muddy. I will try it with other gain settings.
