The Very Smallest Amps
Mar 24, 2007 at 4:15 PM Post #16 of 25
Though not nearly a small as the MiniBox-D I would recommend T&D Dreamwork's XTRA X-1 amp. It's small enough to be portable but powerful enough to drive larger headphones if you ever get upgrade to a full sized set of cans. It sounds great directly out of my Macbook Pro into my HD595's as well as my e3c's.

Cheers,
Shade.

I did a calculation
MiniBox-D: 3.64*2.2*0.34inch(91mm*55mm*8.5mm)=42.5725mm*3
iBasso T1: 74L x 36.5W x 10.5H(mm)=28.3605mm*3
Supermicro: 2.0"x1.0"x0.7"=22.942mm*3

lol~~ Supermicro is still the smallest amp, and it has very good SQ, (I am Xin's supporter, hehe)
iBasso T1 is the second smallest amp but it has bass booster and wide soundstage function, and 2 headphone output
Minibox-D is the largest one among them, but maybe the cheapest.
All of them are great.

Minibox-D is still the thinnest, tho' @ 8.5mm high, and the lowest priced @ $69 including nice hinged, leather case, carrying bag & AC/USB adapter/charger — but of course Supermicro is the smallest (as I noted earlier in the thread).

ibasso t1 next to creative zen vision. the minibox-d is certainly thinner than the t1, but in my opinion, the t1 is way sexier in terms of looks.

minibox-d
thin
$69
leather case
charger

ibasso t1
thin and small (but not as thin as miniboxd, and i am unsure about overall size)
$89 at the moment off ebay
no case
charger

there are more comparisons to be made in terms of sound, but i haven't heard the amps yet..

Yep. The glossy, sleek finish is very neat.

It also does not sound bad either, that is the T1. With either of my small portables I use the bass button.

yes. it is a very good amp. enough to satisfy most and it's at a very good price. comes with a nice pouch and a charger. the 3 switches work very nicely.

Agreed.

It's a bit artificial but in the long run, burn-in included, it has a good chance of sounding better than either the T1 or the D. It sounds quite a bit better than my GV5.

However, it's not small at all IMHO. It's about as thick as the Tomahawk, but longer. I wouldn't consider it over the T1 or D if portability was the only factor.
