Just saw this!  I love the idea of a dedicated transport (with the options listed in the original post) because I would want use it to feed both my portable and home audio systems.  My only request is an easier way to generate multiple playlists.  Another idea is taking the idea of a dedicated transport and creating a portable and desktop option.
Curious to see how this works out and saving my pennies for if/when it is released!

I think providing FiiO's potential transport can be priced quite reasonably this would give many members more reason to buy. What we have is a market full of DAPs and members purchasing these DAPs just to use as a transport whilst much of the internal amp and DAP itself is never used. If FiiO can provide all the right inputs coax, optical, USB, big storage then keep the price quite low there's quite a large market in it imo. We have people buying AK units, DX80, just to use their optical out etc, people buying smartphones just to use as transports.

The key is to keep the price below such units, if its possible.

Well said!

I would not want any DSP on a transport (unless it could be completely defeated), other than a quality EQ. Bit perfect out to the DAC as I want as clean a signal as possible.

There's another market James, desktop DACs. Quite a few people simply don't want to use their computer for audio, or they can't for various reasons (work computers for example). Imagine an excellent transport feeding your desktop rig and not having to be tied to your computer chair, or draining your DAPs battery if using one as a source to the desktop gear.

Exactly what I am looking for!

Then the stacking kit ala HS6. I thought the stacking kits of FiiO are brilliant! I hate those rubber bands blocking portion of the screen.

When James first discussed the x7 I lobbied with zero success for msata and regular not micro sd

We are now full circle. Plenty of crazies are modding iPods for lots of storage. Myself included.

So there is a need for a portable storage monster.

Count me in when a good dac and amp is added in

yes, and this will be the ONE in the world.

think about it, the only ONE which can supports 1T storage in the world and enough for most people to carry all his music on the go.

What will be the only one in the world?

Geek wave is going to have mSata per the latest update, plus USB C. Should be finally out by summer or fall by the looks of things. I believe it to have Wifi and Bluetooth as well.

You means use OTG and connect to an extra disk ? that is different way and some other DAPs already supports that .

My choice of screen largely depends on the device's ability to be synced with a smart watch. I assume such an interface would require both bluetooth and a touch screen.

If you wont be able to control it with a smart watch, or if its possible to do it without a touch screen, id rather just have a non touch screen with a wheel with fast scrolling, in the interest of reducing cost and size and maximizing battery life

I'm not sure. They will explain further in the next update. Not sure when that will be.

Looks like it's built in mSata, at least that's what's being reported in the wave thread: "The devices will still have the 64-256GB of built-in storage, but now that's on an mSATA drive."

So that would make the built in storage easily swappable.

Thats cool. But unless FiiO can provide the device with a 512gb-1tb msata then id rather them ship it empty. Even then, I'd only like it to come with storage if it ends up being as cheap as or cheaper than if FiiO were to sell it empty and I had to buy the storage drive myself.
