To make things short: my brother broke my A900s (my sister gave it the finishing blow) and now I'm one headphone missing.

Bro wants to buy headphones, but has a 150-200$ price range, and the Head-Fi curse has me staring at the K701s or maybe the A900ti (or some Grado).

-I really loved the A900s, but now it's a *been there, done that" type of feeling I have towards that model. If my next set come from AT, I want to go higher on the line.
-Comfort is a *BIG* issue (that's partly why I love the A900s), and Beyers don't look that comfy (compared to the others.
-I'm open to some variety, but I have sens at work (HD295 or something like that), and they're ok, but I'm not that fond with the sound signature.
-At the moment they're more "headphones plugged into PC", so bass can't be ignored.
-Ideally not too expensive (~sub 300, okay 400), but if there's a great opportunity I'm willing to jump on it (Qualia 010, L3000g... hey, a guy can dream)

I've been eyeing the K701s because the price looks good (the 601s were also a choice, but there's only a minor price difference between both). How hard are the K701s to drive? How are they compared to the SR225/325?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Beyer DT880 and DT990 are some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I assume the consumer (low tension) 770 would fit that bill, too.

I find the K701/K601 fine, but they are clearly less comfy than the beyers.

There's a Montreal meet planned on July 19. Maybe you'll find something you like there.

W1000 as a next step "up" is really "sideways" IMO. totally different presentation, you should try it out if you can.

-The D2000 does look interesting, I keep forgetting the Denons...
-I was tempted by the W1000, but I read many comments that weren't so great about them.
-I'll do more research on the DT880
