NAD521BEE 5/5 Stars (1 review)
NAD542 5/5 Stars (2 reviews)
Cambridge 640C 4,5/5 Stars (6 reviews, the only one not giving 5/5 did this by accident)

Geez, isn't Audioreview.com helpful?

Anyway, did somebody ever compare those players?

I'm planning a Marantz CD6000OSE vs. Panasonic DVD-S75 (European model!) vs. Terratec Aureon FireWire review, as soon as the belated Panny will arrive, btw...

Greetings from Hannover!

i told you before, audioreviews.com is absolute crap.

anyway, the NAD players are supposed to be good, and i like my C541i very much. the C542, being brand new, might be kind of expensive compared to the earlier model, which you can get used on Audiogon for $250 or so. I've never heard the Cambridge player but it's built very nicely and people seem to like its sound.

From what I understand, the NAD 542 is similar to the 521BEE, but with better bass. The 640C is in the same league as the 542, but the sound is a little different.

That's all from other people's opinions, though -- I have the 542, and have never heard the 640C.

Edit: Thought I'd heard the 521BEE, but as I think, it was the 541.

Gotta put a plug in for HDCD that comes with the NAD.

I bought my C542 without giving any consideration to this feature. Now, every time I'm sorting through my CDs for the next one to play my fingers automatically slow down as they hover over HDCD disks... they can be that much better. Grateful dead on HDCD is great, so is Tubular Bells (I prefer to listen to it despite actually liking the music in Tubular Bells II which is not HDCD). Roxy music has unbelievable upper treble and tight bass.

I can go on but I think you get my drift!

Cheers,

I have not got to compare them but I have heard the NAD 521 BEE and thought is was good for 300.00. Also thought it did a good jod as a transport with a Musical fidelity DAC.
