TEAC POS --> NAD C542

Stuff > Lotsa stuff...

I finally realized that I need only two cans:

My Omega II's and my RS-1's...and the systems that are paired with them.

Expect a big rummage sale in the coming year...

In order of aquiring:
Some JVC crap
Sennheiser HD530 ( Before Head-Fi, and the salesman gave me these for $90, which is too much IMHO)
Beyerdynamic DT880 ( After Head-Fi, and alot of hassle with customs, VAT etc. The final price was over $300 and that's my month's salary)
Planning on building Corda HA1 :)
Listening primarily to R&B,Soul and Jazz.

Schizorabbit,

Don't be fooled into thinking that TEAC only make budget components.

You should hear their hi-end cassette decks. They blow just about all of their counterparts right out of the water, with the possible exception of the likes of the hi-end Nakamichi's CR7s / ZX9 / Dragon / Nak 'Thou etc.

TEAC's Esoteric P-70/D-70 2 piece CD transport/D/A converter just won Soundstage.com Review's Choice Award.

Just US$14,000 for the matching set.

Here's my contribution....

Headphones....various crappy phones>>Koss/Radio Shack phones (don't have model number at work)>>Sony Street Style>>Grado SR60/Sennheiser PX100 and PX200

Source....Panasonic SL-SX400 PCDP>>Sony D-J401 PCDP>>headphone output of Sony CDP-K1 karaoke CD player from early 90s (home headphone system)/Aiwa EV501 PCDP

I don't even want to mention my speakers....too many

I think this will be useful because it will reveal some patterns as to:
1. What phones lead to what successive purchases
2. What phones follow in a particular listening style

A good idea!
biggrin.gif

1. For fones, only ones I have actually bought have been all Grado.
SR125 -->SR225-->SR325-->RS2-->RS1 & Allesandro Music Pro
And.. I am on the third set of Ety 4S.

Amps and sources, I always used the same ones on my speaker system whatever I was running at the time.

I've started to investigate in stand-alone head amps last year since hooking up a headphone converter is too much of a hasstle. ( either I had to run two sets of speaker wire or disconct the main ones from the speakers )

Currenly I use Naim Headline2/NAPSC and waiting for a Reference Gilmore.

2. I listen to variety of music.
80%=electronica/ambient/dance/chill/funk/r&b
pop/rock/percussive world latin music/
piano, latin and light jazz/ hip hop/rap/ light metal ( a la ozzy ) but NO alternative rock.

10%= vocals.

10% =classical. heavy piano work or 20th century russian, french and american composer. NO chamber.

I've settled on the systems that can balance between accurate timing property, fast transients and natural presense.

Resolution and finesse are also important yet not at the expense of good music making. I do not value much of a soundstage depth if it kills the rest.

Also, a system that is listenable with only well-recorded music do not belong in this house.

Partially agreed, but there were other good competitors, too, at that time: Luman had the big K series (K-03/04/05), for example. And the big Yamahas (K-1000/1020) were also fairly fine decks. And, of course, there was Tandberg with tank-like models like the TCD 3014 A, weighing almost 10 kg - the thingy had a 1 cm thick steel ground plate, iirc... *drool*
wink.gif

Teac's most recent stereo series doesn't seem to be bad, either: The A-1D (integrated amp), T-1D (fm tuner) and C-1D (cdp) are handsome looking classic stereo components, that have already got some favourable reviews over here.

Greetings from Munich!
