Yes lol, I meant those numbers are probably attainable in another dimension.

Hi!

i bought a EU version on a french web site - arriving next week (planned).

Are you sure that there will be a volume cap? If yes, is it a hardware cap or a software cap?

If yes, do you recommend to cancel my order and order from ebay a JP version? I use mainly shure se215 iem.

thanks
Pierre

A dump of the /etc directories of both a limited and an unlimited version might help. BUT, to modify the system you need to root for which you either need a security exploit or unlock the bootloader. I am not even sure if it is possible to unlock the bootloader of the NW-a105. If it is I would be very carefully because Sony does nasty stuff on their mobile phones during unlock (remove DRM keys), that results in limited functionality.

I’m affraid about the waranty...

I already had problems in the past...

Is the capping really problematic ?

pierre

What are you going to be listening with? Which actual headphones or IEM's ?

Just tried my old Klipsch X10i IEMs that have an impedance of 50 Ohm and even with the uncapped Japanese model I'm at 85 out of 120.
With my 8 Ohm SE846's same listening level is at 65. I'd say even on the Japanese version it might struggle to drive anything above 100 ohm.

The uncapped A105 is rated at only 35mw I think compared to 40mw (or 50mw?) with the ZX300 via SE and that couldn't drive a set of 150 Ohm Sen HD660S well via SE (OK over balanced)

As for warranty, if your not prepared to take the risk I wouldn't go import off ebay. There is no certainty that their is a cap unless someone compared the two and that any cap could be removed. Its just normal that Sony cap their players while the Chinese brands seem to get away without doing it.

From my experience the volume limit means u have to turn it up about 13 clicks more to match the Japanese unit ..so 85 will be about 98 on the EU version still ok I guess
How do you know its 13 clicks? From other capped Sony's?
