Well, I'm the proud owner of some real nice MF gear. I've got a few hours on this stuff and it's truly HighEnd! The 650's are now close to being too forward, gone is the Senn veil. In total audio bliss

Very true - the "so called" senn veil is, imo (and in my experience!), a result of inadequate amplification. Plug them into a good amp and they sound forward, lively and dynamic with any kind of music.

Edit: Oh, and I almost forgot, congrats on your new acquisition!

Nice setup you have there!

Yeah, I love the HD650 too. I sell gear I don't use or have gotten tired of. The HD650 has been in my collection since forever and it is not going anywhere. IMHO, the HD650 hangs in there with the big boys.

I don't have that whole stack of MF and I prefer the Senn 600 over the 650 (although I imagine the benefit is the same on all Senns), but my new X-cans with NOS tubes (http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ube&1156537506) simply made my Senns sound more like Grado's in regards to detail. And as you said the "veil" or lack of detail is gone.

You are correct sir. And I probably wouldn't have believed it if I didn't hear it, but MF absolutely gave a new lease on life for my 600s.

I've had the 650's for a while now. I only had the 555's about 2 weeks and than made the jump to the HD650.

I feel the 555's are 90% of the 650's. Also feel the 555's are a great deal at $100. and the 650's are not 3x better but cost 3x more.

I don't think you can stack it like that. My mom once put some magazines on it and the XCan V3 overheated.

The fowardness it brings to the HD 650 does give an impression of 'more of the details' being there.

Agreed get the amp to the top, tubes run HOT! I have to keep my Tri-Vista on top for the same reason. If I put the HeadAmp on top the Tri-Vista doesn't overheat but does cook, while on top its mearly warm to the touch.

I had a relatively similar experience, with my setup, a few weeks back ("the veil was lifted"). In the long term (IMO), the HD650s really don't have much of any "veil", if any, in a system w/good synergy. That is great that you are getting so much enjoyment out of your "new" setup, BennyBoy!
