The Sennheiser Orpheus 2? A First Look At The Sennheiser HE-1 (The New Orpheus)

Yep I'm their customer and sennheiser works for me, or in the case of this debacle, don't work for me.

If you cannot afford to spend 55 grand on a statement you are irrelevant to this particular case. You are entitled to think it is a debacle, what you are not entitled to is thinking you are right when you are obviously in the wrong, but this happens everywhere and with everything whenever it is out of the mass' reach.

I don't think you warrant conversation but put it this way; where I come from the minimum wage is 400 euro, so roughly 430 or 440 USD a month. If I were to act out against things out of the average consumer's reach as you are, I'd boycott the entire foundation of this website. The trick to being reasonable and not being upset over things one cannot possibly afford just for the sake of that in itself is perspective which is obviously wherein your thought process error lies.

Sennheiser, whether or not you continue to be a customer to them due to the HE1 being a blatant outrage is not going to have any effect on them producing the Orpheus and as such your opinion is just that, which is not to say you aren't entitled to having it, you just should reconsider your wording and your figurative high horse.

jibzilla, you don't have to be mad just because they released a high end luxury product - you can go on living your life without having one. The regular head-fi'er is not really the target audience.

MSB is bringing out a $40k electrostatic amp soon. I'm not going to buy one, but I'm also not going to be mad that it exists. If someone wants to buy one then good for them. Who cares. Up until just recently the best of the best headphone rig in the world was within reach of a fair chunk of the population, but as popularity for high end gear increases, companies will continue to make more and more super expensive stuff until it gets as ridiculous as the 2 channel market. It was always going to happen, Sennheiser just did it first.

Oh yeah. There's nothing much to talk about since the few members that are getting one won't have it for a year or more.

As expensive as it is though, I think buying this system is less outrageous than buying a dac for the same money yet people seem to be doing that. If I had the option between this or an equally priced dac to add to my system I'd take the HE1 all day. To each their own though.

Personally, if I could afford one of these and ordered one, I probably wouldn't go posting about it on here too much anyway because you'd have a million people bombarding you with questions about how does it compare to X, have you heard X headphone with X amp and how's the decay of an orchestral violin piece around the 5-7khz range compared to it? Fishing for you to make a comment that makes them feel better about not owning one because of the way you described one specific attribute of the sound... I wouldn't really want to deal with that...

I don't think anyone has mentioned it
Unless you can recognise them from this photo:

They had Wireworld platinum cables then I listen to it and in the picture. Not my favorite cable.

I guess more impressions on SQ are coming soon as they going to have Sennheiser HE-1 at CanJam in London.

I wonder how many people will be listening to this:

and thinking "yeah it's good, but I'd like to hear something a bit more affordable, like the Orpheus..."

I'm actually curious to see how the MSB system will perform - they've been selling super expensive stuff for years and I am aware of their excellence first hand having auditioned a friend's setup who owns their Diamond DAC on multiple occasions but I can't help but wonder how it'll fare versus the Orpheus.

I mean I figure it's pretty silly to look at performance at all at these price points, performance is a given. However, whilst the MSB is pretty cool looking as well, personally if I had 50-100 grand to blow on headphones I'd never even bother considering it over the Orpheus due to how beautiful the latter is. I guess they may still get part of the market off of Sennheiser but when it comes to a design piece or work of art and its presentation (which I believe to be a big portion of the target audience) there's really no contest is there?

I think the Orpheus 2 is butt ugly. To each his own.
