The Sennheiser Orpheus 2? A First Look At The Sennheiser HE-1 (The New Orpheus)

Code:
[color=rgb(33, 33, 33)] For more than 20 years it has been demonstrated the importance of cables, connectors, plugs, sockets and power conditioners to achieve the correct three-dimensional reconstruction of the music playback.[/color]

And how was that demonstrated?  Can you point me to the ABX-DBT that demonstrates that?

Those look like sighted subjective opinions. A quick review found no ABX or even measurements.

I'm out, as this will end badly and involve the mods if we continue. If you want to discuss further, we should move to Sound Science.

I've posted my thoughts on the new Orpheus over here:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/799522/the-sennheiser-orpheus-experience-or-the-day-i-went-to-a-holistic-health-clinic-to-listen-to-the-best-headphones-in-the-world

I'm relatively new to the forum - would it be better for me to remove that thread and post it here instead?

@ bfreedma: sorry, I added a wire double blind project (1 & 2) up to the list after you wrote your post.

the two additional web links that you have provided document so called double-blind subjective tests that the writer performed on himself. however, the writer concedes that he can actually see the cables being used in the test and that introduces the possibility of bias. his tests do not constitute objective abx double-blind testing of subjects performed in a controlled testing environment and consequently, fail to prove your claims. if you really are "seeking digital truth" then you'll have to do better than that. you can always take your claims and web links to the sound science forum for scrutiny if you like as bfreedma suggested, but this thread is not the place for them.

@ up late and bfreedma: I realize that if somebody wants scientifically demonstrate a phenomenon he has to do an ABX-DBT, but I don't know if it will be performed correctly. I invite you to read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABX_test, in particular Potential flaws.
IMHO an honest, experienced and prepared audiophile, equipper with a very sensitive and trained ear, under appropriated conditions, can certainly feel the difference (if there is), albeit very small, when you change a component in his Hi-Fi system.

I apologize to everyone: I went off topic. I was just trying to suggest to be very cautious in expressing performance judgments on such a particular product (I would say only). In any case I wish so much that it cost much less, or that Sennheiser will produce a more affordable version of it.

Is there plastic in the headphone?

Yes, there is probably plastic in our corn flakes but, for $55,000, I hope there is not any plastic (or euphemism for plastic) in those headphones. If Sennheiser uses plastic in the HE1060, it's like trying to tell me that Rolls Royce uses plastic seat control buttons to save weight.

Of course they contain plastic, how do you think electrostatic headphones work? Like the original Orpheus and Stax electrostatic headphones the diaphragms that produce the sound are plastic with metal coatings.

I expect that most of the insulation on the wiring is also plastic. I doubt very much if there is any headphone manufactured that does not include some plastic. This is a good thing as for many purposes specialist plastics provide the best combination of electrical and mechanical properties.

thanks for the caution but if folks happen to be exuberant about the orpheus 2 then why shouldn't they express it?

Do not be mad at anyone who takes the time to post after listening to them what ever there opinion is. As all of this is subjective and not one is actually done Ina method that I can understand and trust. In fact the only one that has any transparency is Jude's. No one else has clarity of source chain.
If and when I get my skinny head on a set I'll post but it must be on my tes . Music and source and not an ak240 or the like

Please clarify
