In my case I use a socket saver for that and fix it in proper position once, than use it like that. In your case you need adapters anyway so you just have to be careful when you insert it in adapter. I have a few working perfectly like that for years (well, not often used but when used they work).BTW, one of the EL34's has a broken guidepin. Any harm or downside to using a drop of super glue to reattach?

True, as you point out it is clear where the guidepin was and if I am attentive when aligning tube into adapter it is perfectly fine. They also have better heat disipation.I don't know about improvements, but it should help reduce outside interference. For the microphonics I was making polyurethane adapters at one point.

While organizing my tube collection, I found 2 pair of RCA 6L6GC that I had bought years ago and forgotten about. My Toolshed amp can use either 6V6 or 6L6 variants for power tubes, so I just now rolled them in place of the 6V6 that I normally run. Wow! Pretty nice sound, solid bottom end and a little more power
. I know they will benefit from a few hours, so I have some vinyl to play this week. Looks like 1964 date codes, 17th week, stamped RCA for Seeburg.
For those with experience with this tube, the copper rods are a good sign?
Cheers, JC

Toolshed looks like an interesting company with enthusiastic amp builders. Plus that they are a veteran owned company.
Which model do you own? How do you like it? How was your experience with dealing with the company?
Thanks

Since you asked, my experience has been nothing but positive. Matt at Toolshed Amps is a great guy and a skilled amp designer, as you can see from their website.
I have the Euphoria amp and the Emotive preamp, both purchased about 7 years ago. Those amps mate perfectly with my ZU speakers in an analog vinyl setup.
Cheers, JC

I just saw that besides the excellent EL34 guide, on which one of our fellow head-fiers contributed, found here, Pasquale Russo went forward and came with another one related to 6L6 / KT88 and so on, which can be found here. I will buy it and advise all to take a look on his work and support it. We need more people like him.

Both are great books. Very educational in regards to the manufacturers of the tubes like GEC, Telefunken, Philips, etc as well as the specific tubes. Both books can be very detrimental to your wallet though. @Tom-s collected all the EL34 yet?I just saw that besides the excellent EL34 guide, on which one of our fellow head-fiers contributed, found here, Pasquale Russo went forward and came with another one related to 6L6 / KT88 and so on, which can be found here. Can anyone offer their thoughts on the 6L6 tubes? I have heard the RCA black plate and GE gray plate 6L6GC, do any others sound better? How would you rank them?
I appreciate it and thanks in advance for any replies.

It seems the 6L6 guide was older than the EL34. I thought it is a newer book because I was not remembering it from the time I bought the other one. Anyway, nice book and I hope it will be enhanced with a future edition. I have a few things not presented, so I can help if asked. Both are great books. Just finished catching up with this thread… a lot of tubes added to the wanted list
I built one of @L0rdGwyn Aegis amps which has been a great experience and sounds amazing. Before that (and still have) was the Auris Nirvana which also takes EL34 but only that tube. Most changes come from the 12au7.
Anyway, today I rolled in a pair of RCA 6V6GT black glass tubes. Bought these at the same time as NOS pair of GEC KT88s so they’re feeling a little ignored! Completely different but still sound very good given they only have 6hrs on them!

Today I started skimming through a lot of early comments and saw no mention of KT 90’s or Telefunken LS 50’s, maybe those comments came later or I am using unusual power tubes. I do run a PrimaLuna amp in my main system that takes 8 power tubes that can go all the way to KT 150’s, yet I can do well with KT 88’s and such since I have plenty of power for my needs. Any recommendations on 8 power tubes for less than $1,000?

Yes, but only much lower power tubes! I thought I had it bad with 4 output tubes lol.Today I started skimming through a lot of early comments and saw no mention of KT 90’s or Telefunken LS 50’s, maybe those comments came later or I am using unusual power tubes.
