I could use your Ken Rad 6y6g and Brimar 6v6. :)

I have to decide on a 6bx7 amp and a 6y6g amp. I'll have the 6bx7 amp next week for a side by side comparison. A double triode vs a pentode strapped triode triode strapped pentode amp. Both at 3w and using similar mains and output transformer with Russian caps.
FTFY. You obviously haven't had your coffee yet. 🤣

I can vouch for "morning coffee is everything"

Without it, the day cannot officially start. :)

Remember that Matt, @UntilThen, is down under in Australia. It was actually 3:19 PM Saturday afternoon when he posted that comment! :scream: I think it was past time for his siesta! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

As we say here on head-fi "pictures or it didn't happen". Here are Visseaux 6F6GT driving Ken-Rad 6Y6G:

Those Visseaux make me jealous.

I found a nice pair of MWT branded tubes from swedish military stock. The 6v6g/gt etching on the glass indicates a 1940 vintage. Top mica is like a 1950s RCA and they have double rectangular getter.

Are these RCA tubes, possibly late 1940s?

Edit: I think it's a Hytron tube. I have a Hytron that has the same construction but with only one rectangular getter.

Such wonderful 6y6 and 6v6 tubes. You guys are making me envious. I have decided to go with the 6y6 amp so that means I'll be competing with you guys for those tubes. :)
See my impressions of the 6y6 vs 6bx7 amps - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/eric-mcchanson-headphone-amp.718350/post-17528594

I did order 2 pairs of Philco 6y6g black glass and GE 6y6g grey glass both NOS and in original boxes. Will share when they get here.

I bet @bcowen lost these to you, and is kicking himself for being cheap and not raising the bid above 75 cents per tube :smirk:

From my own personal experience I find the GE power tubes to be very good. 6L6GC, 7881, 6BX7, 6BL7, etc. Not so sure about the smaller signal tubes tho.

Um, that's not entirely accurate. 75 cents was the minimum @UntilThen demanded that I pay him to take them. And I had to pay the shipping. 🤣

I'll fess up and say that my distaste for GE tubes is from experience with the signal tubes: 6SN7's, 12AU7's, 6922's, etc. I have no experience with GE power tubes other than the 211 and 5998. The 211's were significantly better than the stock Chinese tubes they replaced, but I never had a chance to compare them to the other major player in that type, the RCA's. The 5998? Not bad. Maybe pretty OK for the money at $50 (and this was only a few months ago). Compared to a TungSol 5998? No contest, but then neither is the going price for them.
