There's still a glass tube inside of those metal cans. Might make for an interesting experiment to try to liberate a pair. I've done this with C3g, but the metal cans on those are technically two pieces. These might be harder to pry open without breaking what's inside but if I had a rusty pair I paid 10 dollars for I would still be tempted to try.

Not sure if you mean the metal tubes. The 6C5/6J5 tubes etc only have a piece of glass on the bottom to hold the pins. There's still a glass tube inside of those metal cans. The bottom of this post shows the construction of a 6J5 tube taken apart.

That's very interesting. I wouldn't have thought a metal can with a seal would hold vacuum integrity like that. I've read that vinylsavior post too and somehow forgot that. Getting old I guess. Not sure if you mean the metal tubes. The 6C5/6J5 tubes etc only have a piece of glass on the bottom to hold the pins.

There are 6J5 tubes similar to the C3g with a metal shroud and glass underneath - the Visseaux 6J5M tubes. That's very interesting. Um… and G73rI'll admit my bias in wanting to see a nice G L O W from my bottles!
The only exception to my self imposed rule is the C3G.
I would have a very difficult time with any funky rusted metal tubes......even if they were dirt cheap and sounded glorious!!!
No glow, but not metal cans.

Adapters arrived today from Deyan (very nice adapters) so I got to try out the rusty Ken-Rad 6C5's. They sound good, but one of them is noisy, like a constant white noise. Upon closer inspection I noticed one of them is made by RCA. I don't know if there's a difference between one made by Ken-Rad or one made by RCA. I found another KR pair that looks much better from the photographs but they're untested.

Visseaux seem to have cornered the marketYIKES!!!!!!! Talk about a cruel looking tube.............that is IT! I have Visseaux 6J5 but G for glass not M for Monstrosity![]()

Most of my tubes were untested and work very well. I have a tested ECC81 that measures very low and sounds excellent in both OTC and OTL. Untested tubes are usually cheaper. I wouldn't worry.Adapters arrived today from Deyan (very nice adapters) so I got to try out the rusty Ken-Rad 6C5's. They sound good, but one of them is noisy, like a constant white noise. The Ken-Rads sound different than the RCA tubes - usually better bass, but both are good.Adapters arrived today from Deyan (very nice adapters) so I got to try out the rusty Ken-Rad 6C5's. As Triod750 stated, don't worry about untested tubes; the main thing is that they work.

Found something something for you nw - a Tung Sol 6W6GT tube:I'm a bit biased regarding metal tubes and no 'glow'. I do, however, really like the C3G so I'm not 100% all glow all the time!

Together with a TFK ECC85 it sounds as nice as it looks in my Ultimate.
Well - this is the night version.
Here is how it looks with the lights on in the room:

Still very nice tube glow colors...
