10E/348 shouldered grey glass (The ones he was asking about)

He linked to them in his post https://www.langrex.co.uk/products/l63-6j5g-gec-shouldered-grey-glass-oval-print-nos-valve-tube/

Thanks. I thought I had quit the L63 game for good since after trying out so many singles I keep coming back to my GEC / Marconi staright bottle and sold off the rest.

A friend recently lent me a metal base Sylvania 6SN7W (with A marking on top) and that tube has such an sense of air and sparkle without harshness that is incredibly addictive lol. It's a bit lean and lacking in the low end though... I wonder if the metal base GEC can be the ticket?

I have GEC/Marconi ST and Brimar/STC ST bottles, and my MOV/Marconi straight bottle L63 is still a fav. Haven't sold off the rest... because hoarding collecting reasons.

The 6SN7W is pretty special in that aspect. Uncertain even a metal base GEC can offer that same sparkle. Franken 7N7 can get very close at a tenth the cost - racetrack micas, flat(ish) top version. Could summon @bcowen for the full frankenphile info. Have one pair of Sylvi 6J5s that gets close(ish)... but not quite.

Maybe try the metal base Sylvania 6J5. Off hand, I think there are a couple of different types/plates. The Sylvania 6SN7 that came out immediately after the metal base is worth seeking out as well. It's one of my favorite 6SN7, and I might even prefer it to the slightly earlier metal base.

There are a few different GEC/Marconi straight bottle L63. I like them all, but am partial to the black base, grey glass with upturned cup getter. These tend to have a big yellow MWT label. I think these came out after the metal base and before the clear glass version.

If “plate size”matters the Visseaux have no envy problems. I have one quad with a nice pair and a noisy pair. Think I need to suck it up and finally resolder the pins on the noisy pair and see if that helps.
