The Qudelix-5K thread

Instead of trying to upgrade my IE600 + Qudelix pairing, I got the DC Elite. I made sure!.. it worked out, got the upgrade for now, and the platform to open up the upgrade path 100%. Review perusal from the vantage point is noticeably funner. What would the DC Elite do with that?
I took a look but I was wanting an alternative with parametric EQ. I took a look at the DC Elite and was interested until I found out there was no EQ.

The DSP suite and software UI on the Qudelix 5k make it hard to beat product for its price, size, and versatility. Even if the hardware is aging, they've committed to the software platform with semi-regular updates. The fact that Qudelix has been refining the same software platform for so long works to their advantage. FiiO's bluetooth dongles are a close second with most of the same features (PEQ, bluetooth, etc), but a bit larger in size.

FiiO bluetooth dongles, do you have any you recommend? I have taken the XD05-Pro on a flight before and with the size of that thing, i can safely say I don't mind things being a little large.

Most recent Fiio stuff if pretty decent. Not close to the 5k in terms of software but pretty good nonetheless.

I really like the BTR13, BTR15 and BTR17. There will be a higher end BTR19 later this year as they stopped making the Q line.

In terms of sound, the Fiio higher end stuff like the BTR17 is better than the Qudelix stuff, both the T71 and the 5k.

On my desk today:

  • iFi Gryphon
  • Fiio BTR17
  • iBasso Nunchaku
  • Qudelix T71
  • Qudelix 5k

And my UM MEST mk2.

I haven’t tried any of the FiiO dongles myself. I’ve switched from using the 5K as my main mobile dongle to using a DAP with DSP (including PEQ). I also occasionally use a Chord Mojo 2, but its EQ is a pretty basic four-filter one. But for dongles with lots of features and DSP, there’s not much reason to upgrade from the 5K IMO.

Dear members.
Cut a very long story short;
Mobile. New Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Dongle. Q 5k.
Problem; I cannot for the life of me get this to work?
I connect via USB-C .
I downloaded the app.
I have various blutooth ear buds and blutooth head phones, non will work?
I have spent hours trying to get a peep out of this DAC mobile combo.
It's DRIVING ME AROUND THE BEND.
I must be doing something so wrong but what? Followed manual instructions and still zero.
IF blutooth works at all its mobile straight to ear buds not via the 5K?
Is there a morons guide, a step by step infants story book that can explain how I am screwing such a simple plug play connection up.
I've got to the point of sending it back but thought I would ask you guys and gals first.
PLEASE either shoot me or help with clear, one by one instructions. I can't tell you how close I have been to throwing this through the window! I know it's me.
Help, please help.
Kindest regards.

only thing i can think of off the top is to hold the top-Blue button (with the nub) for a couple seconds to force-enter pairing mode

not sure if you've grabbed their PDF manual has the pairing instructions https://www.qudelix.com/blogs/5k-dac-amp/user-manual-pdf
I guess you got that far though, so just throwing it out there

unless the Samsung is doing something funky like trying to only connect through the proprietary SSC codec that 5k doesn't have? dunno about all that stuff though

edit: ah, i think I misread the post from the "pov" of how the 5k actually functions vs op's confusion

That is a very interesting dilemma as I've actually had that same combo and it worked perfectly. Try turning off every bluetooth device around and have only the 5k on as the bluetooth devices might be fighting for a connection. Also try and see if the if it works without the app. Other than that, best of luck.

Are you trying to transmit Bluetooth from the Q5K to your Bluetooth ear buds and headphones?
The Qudelix 5K is for use with wired earphones and headphones.
Exactly. The Qudelix 5k is a Bluetooth receiver only. It does not transmit Bluetooth. Since you already have Bluetooth earbuds and headphones, there is no reason for you to use the 5k. Your earbuds and headphones already have a DAC and amp built into them. Just transmit from your Galaxy phone directly to your earbuds and headphones.

As has been said already, but with a little more detail in case it isn’t apparent to you, the 5K is designed to receive a bluetooth signal from your phone or other source, decode that through the bluetooth receiver chip and DAC (digital to analog converter) into an analog output, amplify (manage might technically be a better word) the analog signal through its amplification circuit then send that to WIRED headphones through the output ports.

Like all such devices it is not designed for use with bluetooth headphones and cannot be used in that application.

Has anyone here tried doubling up the Qudelix 5K with something like the Topping NX7 or other amplifier? I'm wondering what can be done to have the 5k in my chain with the EQ and all it's other glorious features, but not be left short of power for more demanding headphones.

I know double amping is generally not recommended but I'm wondering what the optimal 5k settings would be to deliver enough of a clean line to the amp without causing distortion.

Set the volume low enough and it will work.
See this for details https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_level

About 0.316V RMS is the nominal line out for consumer electronics.
