It's amazing how when you meet someone or see someone for the first time, it usually is meaningless. But when you see the same person again, even if it's just a store cashier at a supermarket you tend to become a little more comfortable and the person will normally seem more likable.

I remember becoming a regular customer at this cafe and I never offered any friendliness but some of the workers recognized me and said hello and seemed comfortable in my presence.

My point is that a familiar face can make a person comfortable and they can warm up to you. A familiar face can be a powerful presence even if you really don't know the person.
