Without counting music... I'd say around $4000 for me... Not that much really, but enough to make me squirm a little.

Let's see...

$80 SR80s, $60 D66s, $100 D77s, $80 twinstarr, $420 firestone stack (hf-1s were a gift, ER4s came in a trade for the SR80s) = $740. Minus $30 for selling the D66s, minus $50 I'll get for the twinstarr, it's $660. Not that bad, I guess.

I lost track of spending after the $1200 mark so maybe this is a good(?) time to sit down and do the math...

sources: $1500
amps: $2150
cables: $400
tubes: $200
music: $450 (rough guess)
headphones: $2200 (including K701 on order)
accessories: $100
grand total: $7000 - gasp -

I'm done. No more... until next year.

I still spend a little change on the stereo rig now and then, but as far as 'phones go its just the Grado's. No amp. just plugged into an 8 year old Panasonic portable that I use for 2-6 hours per day at work.

I just keep coming back here because you guys are so knowledgeable, entertaining, and downright nice! Other websites should take some notes....

I've got a similar case.
Got DT250-80's for my birthday along with a MINT amp. (Awesome friends)
Also got a pair of Energy Encore 2's for free from a friend of my dad's. Just got a t-amp (awesome friends) for my birthday to power those Energy's and to experiment with it. Just need to get a power adapter for it, and then maybe a second one, and then a soldering iron...and then....

Besides that I bought Koss KSC-55's, a Muvo N200 512, and a Chaintech AV-710

This has been in a matter of just over a year. University student, so my funds arent exactly overflowing lol.

The best prevention of buying headphones, is lack of funds.

If I count music, I will become depressed. I shudder to think about how much money I have spent on CDs. Therefore, I will put it in a different column and call it a night.

As to headphones, source, and such, I suppose that I've spent $500 or so. Not bad, not bad at all.

last week someone congratulated me for having 300+ posts and not having any serious money rigs yet. but consider this: i've been here since late november, less than two months and i've already spend 949 dollars on audio upgrades that i never would have thought of making before.

Some of the painful things of this headphone hobby are:

- The Grado pads, of course
- The clamping force of some headphones after a few hours.
- The leather pads on hot, wet weather.
- To switch on the HEV70 3 hours before a listening session.

It is not painful to spend money on something that you really enjoy.

True. If you really enjoy the hobby you are dumping loads of money into you shouldn't worry about how much you spend on the stuff.
