I grew up where Rocky was filmed. Moved near ILLMATIC90 about 10 years ago because I wanted to enjoy the New Jersey shore.
They cleaned my old neighborhood, the Kensington section of Philadelphia, up for the movies. It was truly a difficult life, only I had to deal with heroine, crack, and whatever else on top of it. Tom Brokaw called the intersection at my corner, Front St. and Lehigh Ave., the "Badlands", the most dangerous location in America.
I appreciate the reference! I lived past thirty, and I survived; wearing glasses, and looking a bit like John Denver.

Interesting my father grew up in Frankfurt in the 50s and 60s he told me how bad Philadelphia was growing up every now and then we go visit family and honestly I want to pass on it every time!!

Every time I've been there it was colder than a well diggers butt in the Klondike. ....I mean it hurt my bones!

Note: this comes from a SoCal lifetime member

I heard all about Kensington from my old coworker who is from Philly. It probably was close to what Camden is today. But I won't discuss demographics again from the last time I got in a little troubles lol. All places are beautiful. Just show it differently.

So you think the built in DAC of the WA8 is better than the DAVE?

I've never plugged the DAVE into the WA8. Too much hassle, especially when the WA8 alone sounds so good.

I think the ESS SABRE DAC pairing with the tubes is really very good. The SABRE DACs are very detailed, but can be bright or harsh. The tubes mellow the SABRE sound and give the best of all worlds--smooth tube sound with bass thump and lush mids, but with just a touch of treble roll off while maintaining all the detail.

I'm from Philly but now live in LA. What I miss most about Philly is the food. Especially hoagies, cheesesteaks, and the best sandwich of all, the pulled pork sandwich from DiNic's in the Reading Terminal Market. Perfectly roasted pork with sharp provolone and garlicky broccoli rabe, all ina perfectly chewy hoagie roll.

Agreed on DiNic's - great sandwich. There are often lines at their stall at the market.
