Looks cool, but how does it sound?

Let's not get our hopes up - and end up disappointed when a particular pair of 'phones turn out sounding much worse than their specs would imply.

(That is exactly what has happened with a lot of new Sony headphones - which had highfalutin specs - over the past several years.)

Blighty,
Spec means nothing around here. How about the sound?

I don't have the time to go into detail right now but it's safe to say that it is a definite improvement over the KSC-35. It maintains the same basic sonic character without the midrange bloat and possesses better soundstaging and bass delineation and slam. I have owned them for about a month now so they are well burned in and I have a firm grasp of what they are capable of in direct comparison to the Koss KSC-35.

Blighty,

Where did you get those clip-ons from? JVC America doesn't officially distribute them at all.

That's one source - but they want $59.00 USD for it! And judging by Blighty's impressions, it may be slightly better than the Koss KSC-35, but not really worth twice the KSC-35's price.

By the way, the HP-AL700's styling reminds me somewhat of the Koss KSC-50.

I definitely would like some other impressions, but who is gonna take the plunge?

True, but that's just one opinion. I wouldn't even consider geting them before at least a few more people try them out.

Reviving this thread from a 13 year sleep. I received a pair of HP AL700 yesterday that I bought from Yahoo auction. They were in good condition considering they are clost to 15 years old and the previous owner had barely used them.

Overall they are very nice sounding with good details, great bass for a clip on earphone and a decent soundstage.

The only thing I wonder about is WHY a 3.5 m cable!?!?!

There's also an extension cable that must be close to 2 meters long. Who needs 5 meters of cable for a portable earphone?

I might cut the cable and solder on a new plug later but right now I use a velcro band to shorten the length of the cable.

Picture (not mine) of HP AL700
