It sure is a shocker in the flesh.

I think Benz is betting a lot on this car - its their only one that has a true dose of passion. And passion is what sells luxo cars these days.

I would personally go for the Maserati Quattroporte - its a little more elegant and has that exotic feel to it; mercedes is ubiquious. The mercedes has a lot of bang for the buck though; the kompressor 5.5 has more power and features and is cheaper than the quattroporte.

And depreciation on maserati is horrendous. Might as well buy used.

Both those cars are lovely.

But the pinnacle of design and engineering for Mercedes is definitely....

I have yet to see CLS on the street. But I think SLR is cheesy and vulgar in its styling. Way too exagerated and decorated for my personal taste. Really no luxurious and elegant feel to it. Even the current SL is trying to hard in the look department. I prefer all older SLs.

Not too crazy about CLS' frontal angle. The lateral and rear views are quite refreshing and distinctive. The bold direction of sedan/coupe attempt gets my credit though. This is what Jag XJ should have been inspired from and portrayed through. Call me old school, but Benz CLK is my choice of pimpmobile from MB siblings.

Also Maserati Quattroporte gets my vote in full size sedan. Classy and elegant! The Old school design from Italy works always and anytime.

I do like the CLS's looks though... but not sure if it's worth the premium over the E-Class...

I think the SLR and the CLK are vulgar, they do have passion I will grant that but it is german passion - and while I like germans in general passion is not their strong suit.

The older ones are beautiful cars, they are from when the germans still dared to be pompous - the 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet in particular, just look at that front end it screams of occasion and wealth - you would feel like a sheik driving that car. In the new ones you will feel like a 12 year old kid in suit and a red Schumaker cap.

I'm sorry but I just can't find it within my self to really like modern german cars. They make great executive and family cars - but for pure passion you have got to go to england or itally, there just is no way arround that.
