The Midrangehead Club (new thread - 2013)

Well all you have to do is ensure those two equipments are competently engineered without being altered to "sound" better, then you will probably have a good enough system to reproduce studio quality music as accurately as possible hence the only change or colored part of your system should be your headphones. So if you EQ from the source it trickles down to your headphones, I simply prefer not to do so. If I want a slightly different sound signature then I would change my headphones and not play around with EQ.

I don't think I am the type to hear a change with the swapping of capacitors, I prefer having an objectively neutral dac/amp and have different headphones for use as stated above

They only have that effect because the wonderful bass doesn't draw your attention away from the highs.

You should audition two AKG K1000's. One bass heavy and the other bass light at the same time.

The mids and treble are the same but the bass is very different.

20130830 - updated!

P.S
I had both the Shure 440 and 840 (still have the latter)

the 440 is bright and detailed, almost analytic
the 840 is the same but has a mid-bass bump

not exactly mid-oriented...

You think? I felt like they were both very mid-centric cans. Good separation, too.

I did try the SRH840 some time in the past but not for too long.
mid-centric was also the impression i got so I vaguely agree with you haha.

I am now the happy owner of Eyal's 840 [it's VERY modded]  and wow :O I likes it great for rock and Metal, not to big a fan of it for vocals though but it's still nice for them! Sadly the w1000x [modded] is still my Vocal King,

Still hehe this 840 is something else <3

The shure se315 is "warm and sweet", not mid-centric

the Grado is definitely treble tilted
