I was wondering if anyone here has noticed the crackling on The Mars Volta's Amputechture. I'm listening to the CD for the first time, with my D2 boa plugged into my PC, and through my Triple Fi 10's.
The first track (Viracious Attonement) seems to distort and crackle during the guitar at the start, and slightly crackles throughout the song during mids and most highs.
Is this a known issue with this CD? Is the mastering on this CD ****ty, or is it intentional?

I know I've tried listening once, and never again. I'll try to find it, but I remember it sounding horrible.

I've never heard Amputechture.

I don't know if I would call it "crackling", but their albums are all pretty "hot" in my opinion. I like their stuff, but they are major culprits in the "loudness wars":

Definitely a weird crackling noticeable on the first track. Reminds me of the californication problem which i'm sure the previous post alludes to... the loudness wars.
