It's the only way he'll know whether or not he'll like it. By now a ton of people have shared their thoughts on these 'phones; now it's time for him to buy them to see what he thinks.
@BenF - I don't think anyone would call the Takstar Pro 80 neutral. You might be thinking of the other popular Takstar - the HI2050. The Gemini/Pro 80 is definitely a warm phone with excellent sub-bass and mids. Some have complained about the highs being too bright but I have dialed the EO7K to a minus 2 for treble and it takes care of the problem. The Vali tends to run on the warm side which may be why it doesn't sound as good as the EO7K which can be adjusted to whatever you want it to be. Thanks for all the info you've posted on these S680s - especially the burn-in process. I am really looking forward to trying them.
@Aillas - thanks for the input on the the 680s working with my NOOK HD+. That helped me make my decision.
Agree, HSR-1000/Pro 80 is not neutral; it definitely has a bass bump making it more musical. Maybe BenF is saying that the S680 has more bass than the Pro 80.
@Grayson - I doubt anyone will have both since they are identical phones. We had that same problem on the Takstar thread since a few people were questioning if they were realy the same headphone. The general consensus is that they are the same just based on many sonic impressions and they look identical. Based on this thread it does sound like the 680s have a better quality bass than the Pro80s which is why I am so interested in them.

Does anyone have both HSR-1000 and Pro 80?
My HA-S680s arrived less then an hour ago and my Gemini HSR-1000s are 15 minutes away at my grandfathers house.
My grandfather is turning 105 this year
So hopefully I will be able to compare the HSR-1000 & HA-S680 headphones later today.

Really going towards purchasing these HA-S680s. How are these in terms of sound isolation and leakage?
My only issue right now is picking the right pair. ---> HA-S680, Gemini HSR-1000, CAL!, and Superlux HD681 Evo.
Out of those, I need a pair that has good sound & bass, comfortable, decent isolation/leakage, and are perfect for travelling.

I've just read through the entire thread (I was supposed to be studying
)
Thanks to all who have made contributions to this thread.
I've only owned one pair of full sized headphones so far, the Don Scorpio Dolphins, and I like them tremendously (they cost almost 2x the S680s though)
I am considering purchasing these as my next pair, but only when I've got a little more $ saved up and hopefully when the S680 price drops a little.
What makes me confident that it seems as if the S680 have got a quite similar sound signature to my Dolphins - V-shaped signature, really good bass, and slightly recessed mids. Difference from what I have deduced is that the S680 seems to have better quality in mids while the Dolphins have a slightly more extended and crisp treble. Also, BenF rated the Havi B3 Pro I really highly as I do too, so we might have similar sound preferences!
PurpleAngel and Squeakez, I'm really looking forward to your A/B between the S680 and the Pro80 (which by all accounts are at a similar level to the Dolphins)
