Can someone commend a headphone(closed) fitting progressive rock? (from 70's King Crimson,yes and Pinkfloyd to 90's Dream Theater,The flower kings and Spock's Beard)
K701 is too expensive for me.
My budget is about $110.

Just A/B'd 'honour thy father' between the HD580 jubs and K601; still can't decide which is 'better'; sure they are different but out of the scope here; the HD485's are nice, fun phones while not being really neutral. I find Dream Theater most pleasant with neutral sounding phones, but maybe that's just me.

And I'm also a bit confused as to why every single headphone mentioned in this thread is open, when the thread starter specified closed...

I'm gonna recommend the DT770/80, I love mine for prog and second-hand you might be able to pick them up for only a bit more than your budget.
