The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

  GS-X2: WOW WHAT AN AMP! Especially with LCD3F (with a touch of EQ from Jriver, ~ -2db in the highs > 6kHz to my tastes).
System: Windows PC==>Hugo==>GSX2.
Bass is nice and controlled. Somehow imaging nice and centralized, w/no pulling to left or right, so there is a spacious feeling.
Thanks Justin.

How much does the GSX2 improve the Hugo? I'm thinking about adding a dedicated amp to the chain. One of the amps that I'm interested in is the GS-X MK2 (I can't find any shop that has this amp for demo purposes unfortunately).

  Which inline resistor do you recommened?

I believe they are easy enough to find on eBay or a cable company could create one for you.  Etymotic has the PtoS adapter as well.  Depends how much of a mid bass boost you want really.

The GSX is major improvement over the Hugo amp sonics. You can just feel the power (and the delicacy, detail, and finesse) of the sound at the same time.
The Hugo amp can play loud enough, but it does not have the spaciousness and image definition and bloom of the GSX/2.

I'm sort of retracting my comments earlier of the GSX and the HD800 now that I've done more listening with more material. For whatever reason, there is more silkiness in vocals,
not fully tube like, but still sweet and not raspy like I have heard with other amps driving the 800s. And I do find myself now all caught up in the GSX/HD800 combo's insight and openness. I do still prefer the Ether and Audeze, but the HD800 now has its own charms and validity with the GSX. The GSX seems to have no real coloration and highlights the differences between the phones. So I highly recommend the Hugo/GSX-2 combination's sonics.

The Hugo does a lot in general but only little bits in particular. You can't compare the Hugo's amp section with a GS-X. And it's not, or never has been about loudnes at all.
The reason you prefer the Audeze (I don't know the ether yet) to the HD-800 is it's because it can portray more of the spectrum. The HD-800, no matter how good and spacious it is lacks bass, and a lot of it.

Yep Applehead, I can't help but agree that is exactly what I sense after having owned a series of Audezes (both LCD2s and 2 LCD3s over several years) and the HD800 for about 5 years. Somehow, when everything in the chain, including the recording, line up just right, the HD800 can be riveting, but the LCD3 is most often very enjoyable musical experience. With the right equipment chain, the Audeze sounds mighty fine no matter what recording I throw at it.

We don't know how to calculate it. For hdva600-hdva800 to hd800

How much better is the GSX-2 over the Taurus MK2?
