The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

Without going into specifics, feedback reduces gain while reducing distortion, but lower feedback can sound more alive.  In the end you'd be hard pressed to hear the difference.

The best example of what it sounds like would be something like a HiFiMan EF-6 which has a switch to go from no feedback, to feedback.  On the GS-X it simple goes from low feedback to lower feedback

So in layman terms, higher gain due to reduced feedback will sound more "alive" (whatever that means) but will increase distortion?

Alive like not flat, compressed or otherwise dead sounding.

Gotcha, thanks a bunch.

Any new GS-X progress?  Surely something has to be in the works with the front panels by now, right?

Are the amps going through their dry run in the mean time?  Or waiting for it to be completed so thermals are more accurate?

Was $100 per, not sure if that is still the case.

Yep. And the replacement is quite simple. Just unscrew the cover, unscrew the modules. Pull them out and make sure they stay parallel to the ground while doing it. Then replace with the new ones.

On that note, I've had about a week now with them and finally getting to use my HD-800s with the GS-X and I'm hearing similar findings to my LCD-3s...bass is a bit more prominent and even a bit tighter/detailed too. As well, the imaging has improved. Dynamics have improved as well.

Throw in the amp is also running hotter with the upgrade modules too (a good thing for Class A).
