The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

Frank, did you actually stack the two units and hear a hum?

Not doubting you, just willing to allow myself to start thinking about the arrival of the GSX in the current batch and want to rearrange the gear in my rack in advance. Stacking would be ergonomically ideal (and the least work!) but if current owners confirm the hum from stacking, I'll rearrange gear so they can be separated.

Approximately how long is the connector for the two components?

Thanks!

When I was with my Publisher comparing the Liquid Gold to the GSX he had the GSX stacked and there was an auible hum. I hear nothing that they are separated and Justin does not recommend stacking because it will hum.

Thanks for the replies. Can someone please post the approximate length of the cable connecting the PSU and amp?

Might as well separate them and not worry about it - just want to know how far down in the rack I can place the PSU

Could some material be placed between the units shield the interference? I know both devices need to breathe, so I don't know what the solution would be. Or are we stuck with distance being the only fix?

Supply runs cold.  No worries of burning it out.

So in that case, would a thick sheet of metal between the devices shield the hum, or does it go right through something like that? I'd prefer to stack for shelf space and aesthetics.

I seem to recall from earlier in the thread that hum when stacking was not universally heard.  All things being equal, I would prefer to stack.

I only hear it if I'm using really sensitive headphones like the TH-900s when they're stacked...but not on my Grados? And absolutely nothing with the LCD-X/XC or HD800s.

Aha -- and thanks.  It seems like everything in this hobby can be answered with, "it depends."  :-)

Funny how much this hobby and life in general have in common.
