Time to listen the album again

Their newest album is recorded pretty decently. Quite trippy listening to it on my Grados in a darkroom with my eyes closed.

The Next Great Flaming Lips Album

If you were dissapointed with War with the Mystics or just thought it was okay, there's an easy solution. Just get rid of tracks 1, 2 and 7 and you have a completely different, 100% better album. This new version sounds much more like a an extension of Bulletin/Yoshimi and feels more like a new direction for the band rather than a dissapointing throwback.

Track #2 (Free Radicals) is the only song that I don't like from "Mystics". There's some fantastic material that was left off the album. Most can be found online, and hopefully the rest will surface as B-sides.

The song "Why Does It End?" is one of my all time favorite Flaming Lips songs. It's a shame that it was left off the album, ditto for "You've Gotta Hold On" and "The Gold In The Mountain Of Our Madness".

As well, I enjoy the 5.1 mixes, but let me add a counterpoint. There is too much channel hopping; as if the novelty of the medium hasn't warn off. DSOTM for example, is stellar in surround. The channels are used to immerse, not merely demonstrate or force the listener to become aware that they are there.

The TFL's 5.1's are fun, but I look forward to the day where 5.1 music is standard enough to throw Yoshimi's (espeically) into the relic dust bin.

Kudos and thanks to the Lips for giving us non concert dvd surround though!

I don't agree. It is SUPER loud and clips and fragments. Truly a shame...

I've heard enough to know I like their music, but I don't know enough to know which CD's I should buy first.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
