Why would they make a DAC that only has USB input meaning it is not compatible with their transport.

Don't worry about this, they are thoughtful on this point. USB input is one of the digital inputs
The inputs of the dac will also include: optical、RCA、BNC;
Meanwhile for the outs it uses:fully balanced XLR 、RCA

Would like to try the dac as already had got a cdp.But thats a month wait from now. Don't know why they sell cdp first rather than both

This LD CDP_1 looks really interesting & I'm currently looking for a transport. Any word yet on price?

My quick run through this thread, and another thread put up by Sword Yang, revealed the following*:
 1. CD transport CDP_1 has not been released; the photos are of a prototype. The final version is expected to be released in March.
 1. Usual price CNY1,880 (approx. AUD415, USD275), pre-order discount price (?) CNY1,600 (approx. AUD350, USD230). Presumably this is all within China, shipping not included.
 1. DAC_1 prototype expected mid February.

* No guarantees about accuracy, again!

THe retail price for the cdt would be 1800rmb which is around US$ 270. Thats 1600(US$ 240$) if directly pre-order one from yang. However, this is the deal in China, the price would be a little bit higher in other districts I guess.

There are a few but this is by far the cheapest I think. Can anyone comment on the quality of the CD mechanism?

Yang said it would be coming out by the mid of Feb. To be safe I would say "March". Have been waiting for the dac also, which is little bit cheapper than the transport.

That's a very favourable price point, if initial reviews are positive.

I e-mailed david earlier today and he told me this:
We are hoping to release it within a month or two and the price is $299 USD plus shipping. If you are not in need of a CD Transport but are looking for a DAC unit, our Little Dot DAC will follow the CDP 1 within a couple of months as well.

Looks interesting, i'll have to consider this when it comes out.

Well at $299 I think I will have to pass. Emotiva is going to be releasing a full CD player for $399 in a couple of months which looks like it could be a giant killer just like all their products except their speakers. The ERC-1 has 4 separate power supplies and you can use it as just a transport if you want.

But on second thought I will wait until the reviews are in for both.

Needs an faceplate option that matches MKVI better (black, specifically), imo. Don't cut out compatibility with your premier items.
