Ok, I'm ready to move up to my last set of cans that I will (hopefully, for my wallets sake) buy. I've got my SR-325's to account for rock, my HD555's to account for everything else. But I'm looking to get rid of the HD555's for something with the same amount of comfort and a similar soundstage, but with more bass. Price is no limit (excluding electrostats, they're just too expensive for me).

So far I have narrowed it down to DT770, 880, 990, 701, 601, 501, HD595, and HD580 (650 and 600 seem as though they are too laid back for what I'm looking for). I'm using a Millett Hybrid right now but will be building either an M3 or a PPA. I think I want my main focus to be on music, but still be satifactory for movies and gaming. I like a lot of bass but I'm afraid the 770's may be overpowering. I'm strictly a classic rock/metal/power metal fan. What can/amp combo would you recommend?

From what I've read I'd say the DT990 might fit the bill but I've not heard them.

yes, the 595's you mentioned don't necessarily have more bass than the 555's, but the bass is more refined and punchier. the highs are also somewhat more pronounced which will give you the impression that they're less bassy than the 555's

just so you know

EQ'ing the 555's might help a lot too, you know

Yes, the K701 is currently the best bang for the buck, and is good at many things while not presenting many flaws found in other similiar-priced cans (i.e. Beyer DT880, Senn 650, Grado 325i)...just get it a decent amp (PA2V2 at the least), and the K701 will thrive on your ears.

It's true the HD600/650s are laid back, but I feel it really only rears its ugly head with rock. You're using 325s for that, so I feel they would be a great compliment. Also, to me the 580s are just as laid back as the 600/650s, they're in the same family.
The 595s are fine cans, but not nearly in the same league as the 600/650. Plus, they're in between the 325 and 600/650 in presentation.
Go all the way and get HD600.

Nah, that's up there in the electrostat price area.
