I have read recommendation somewhere about the size of the hole in Sr60 pad, but I don't find it. Please don't answer in American coins, I have no. In millimeters or inches or whatever you have.

If you want to be exact, make the hole 24.26 mm in diameter.......the size of a U.S. quarter (25 cents).

Or I miss something. I bought HD414 pads, so I have original pads left undestroyed. Some say about SR60 that they sound better with a hole in pads and some say that they sound better better with flat pads. Such discussions make me curious. As I said before. You get mad of being in this forum. And I was rather mad even before.

Langrath, the flat pads are different to the comfies with the hole in them, which is where I think the confusion lies. The flats do have holes in them aswell as slits, toddthevinyljunkie.com sells them exclusively, although they were the stock pads on Grados in a bygone era. With the comfies I went from a 20cent hole that is ~2.8 to a Casino chip ~3.8cm, which exposes both diameter rings. I didn't note a great difference in sound with the enlarged hole, if anything the highs are a little more apparent.

It's bigger than a quarter. Let me measure for a sec. 39.5 mm should do it.

If you put the Senns on the Grados the hole will become, let me messure, 3.7cm. It streches out a bit.

As long as you're not using bowl pads on "prestige series" phones, I think you'll be fine. =) If drivers are close enough to ear, then ime treble area will get attenuated and therefore a hole on relatively flatter pads will be beneficial, to regain the lost treble.

I recently ordered the Senn 414 pads and modded them. I cut a hole in the center of each 3.5 cm in diameter (while unmounted on the headphone) and cut eight slits around the hole (each slit about 2.5 mm long). When the pad is mounted on the Grado headphone cup, the hole stretches out a bit to 3.8 cm in diameter. The Grados sound absolutely marvelous with these modded Senn pads installed.

I find they sound best with senn 414 pads unmodded. Using them with flat pads (or other pads with holes) I find them to be too harsh sounding.

Biggie.

This is like a comedy. Nobody understands what the others are talking about.

When you say "sound best" do you compare also with original pads without holes? Or do you compare with earlier original pads that had holes in them?

Along with others' measurements, I found the diameter of 3.6cm (or 1.4 inch) to work nicely as well. Just enough to cover the exposed driver and not leave out anything. (sorry for the blurry pic, my cam is dying)

Good observation. The hole does stretch out a bit because the part of the pad that gets locked onto the grado frame is smaller, and also because of the factory cut hole on the back is too small. This can be fixed by cutting a second hole over the factory cut hole, to a diameter of approx 5.2 cm (or 2 inch).

If you decide to cut just one hole on the front, then a diameter 1.2 inch should stretch to about 1.4" once mounted on the grado.

edit: The comfies don't stretch like the senn pads do, so 1.4 inch should work fine on the comfies.
