Hello head-fi,

I have been absent from head-fi for several years, but I am now on the lookout for a new android phone with good sound quality. After a brief search on head-fi and the general web, I have noticed, with a sense of alarm and also wonder, that the headphone jack is being slowly phased out on the latest Android phones.

I learned last year that the iPhone 7 has no headphone jack, but it now seems that Android phones are also switching to digital-only connections.

A search for "USB-C" did not reveal anything on head-fi, so I thought I would start this thread to ask about the future of Android-fi:

- What are the advantages of a USB-C headphone connection?
- What are the disadvantages?
- Is the USB-C to 3.5mm connector flawless? Is there a loss in quality from using this connection?
- Can all Android apps interface with a USB-C enabled headphone (e.g. PowerAmp, Spotify, Tidal)?
- How do external DACs respond to a USB-C (3.1) connection? Is it dependent on the Android version?
- What USB-C headphones are currently available? And how do they compare to their analog counterparts?
- What USB-C headphones will arrive in the coming year(s)?

Thanks and I hope we can start an interesting conversation.
