Thousands of Zune MP3 music players froze on New Year's Eve around the world due to what Microsoft described as a bug in the device's internal clock.
The bug activated as the internal clock clicked over to "12:01am on December 31, 2008".

The updated Zune Insider post advised users that the malfunction only affected 2006 models of the 30GB media player and should self-correct once the internal clock flipped over to January 1, 2009, the batteries were run down or the device restarted.

Read the complete report here.

Yeah, I'm a computer program and I just can't fathom how Microsoft (or who ever did the firmware for the Zune 30) that their firmware did not know that a 366th day would happen -- that's what a leap year is!!

Anyway, my Zune, like all others is back in action on Jan 1, 2009 -- it was scary, but hilarious now, looking back on it and the egg on MS's face!

lmao. the Y2K bug needed 9 years to finally catch someone slipping and it so happened to be Microsoft.

I wonder if this little blunder will be in the next PC vs. Mac add? that would be pretty funny.
