Anyone else get this? I'm sitting here listening to it, grinning happily, bouncing around to 10:15 Saturday Night!

The drums finally have some impact, and there's actually some bass going on here! Gonna listen to it a few more times before the day is out...

The second disc of rarities from 1977-1979 looks quite nice, too. Too bad Killing An Arab is so conspicuously absent.

I wonder if uber Cure fan Bong could resist.......since he purchased "join the dots" B side collection there may be nothing new here?

Or is there.....

None of the stuff present on Join The Dots is on the Three Imaginary Boys rerelease and vice versa, apart from 10:15 Saturday Night.

And to be honest, they left out a lot of other stuff, too.

So the story goes, anyhow. On Chain of Flowers, they're saying that Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography are coming out Feb. / Mar. 2005.

They're supposededly re-releasing all the albums in sequence, including an extra rarities discs with each.

anyway... yeah, i couldn't resist. bought it the first day it came out. i havn't compared it with my original TIB CD pressing, but from what i heard through the home stereo system, it sounds awesome. like dabblerblue said, the drums have much more impact, details are crystal clear, and you can actually hear Mick Dempsey plucking away on the bass guitar throughout the whole record.

as for the second rarities disc, half of it is of really bad sound quality, but that's come to be expected from demo tapes dating from 1977-1979. many of the songs are in the punk-lite vein, think the jam/gang of four-ish stuff...

there's some really great stuff here, like the fast, punkish version of "I'm Cold" before it got psychedelic on the released B-Side version, the organ driven home demo of "10:15 Saturday Night," the studio out-take "Winter" which hints the Seventeen Seconds direction, and the ultra-rare "World War." i wished they would've included "Killing an Arab" on the second disc instead of "Boys Don't Cry," which was already remastered on Greatest Hits.

more notable songs that are missing are "See the Children," which was a hilarious 1977 demo, and both Cult Hero songs "I Dig You" and "I'm a Cult Hero." i'd also like to see both Three Imaginary Boys era Peel Sessions...

perhaps i'm asking too much...

TIB was supposed to come out with Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornagraphy, but something must've happened at Rhino. oh well... gotta wait till Feb/March. i read somewhere the remastered albums were supposed to come out four at a time.

They're really hating this one over at the Steve Hoffman forums. They are saying its way too compressed and distorted. If so, does not bode well for the rest of the remasters...
frown.gif
But, in some cases, they can be really over-sensitive to the use of compression, IMO, but it's interesting to see the difference in people's reaction here vs. over there.

3IB is a very comprehensive relase........love when they empty the vaults.

I will keep my powder dry till next three releases which I will probably buy, just like the song material better on these three.

hmm... i didn't pay much attention to dynamic range, but i'll be definitely be comparing the remaster with the old pressing. "10:15 Saturday Night" is excellent for testing dynamic range. so far i havn't noticed any distortion, oversaturation, or compression. i'll report back...

Bumping the thread as i recently got all Cure remasters (single disc versions)
...And TIB is by far the worst one.Pity because i love the album. This remaster sucks big time

.The bass is all over the place, boosted and distorted. The CD is already in my "to get rid" pile of CDs.Thankfully the other remasters sound much better!
Looks like i have to search for an early version of this.

Bit off topic. I bought the Cure 2005 Festival DVD last night and I noticed during one song R. Smiths guitar had 696 printed on it in large lettering. Anyone know the significance of that? Searched the web and came up empty. Does it really mean 666?

BTW, I really like the Trilogy DVD where they play Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers in their entirety. They should do another concert like that again but play Three Imaginary Boys, 17 Seconds and Faith in their entirety.

The three imaginary boys remaster is inferior sounding to my boys dont cry original no remaster. The volume is higher but there is a lot of extra clipping and the soundstage is less wide than the original masters.

Now, I wonder how the others like the head on the door remaster is compared to the original since I have the remastered and its sounding really nice. Just like heaven on the kiss me kiss me kiss me deluxe is way better than the single version on the compilations too. listen to the detail on the guitars. ooh. of course, i don't have the original non-remastered kiss me for comparison.

Any more comments on these other remastered cure albums?
